At first you might think that heavy social media users would use email less because they found another way to communicate but a recent informal study from The Nielsen Company found the opposite to be true.
It starts to make sense that it would increase email usage because so many of the Facebook and other notices go to your email box. And, the more you decide to communicate online with a person the more need there is for multiple ways to do that and email works very well.
Maybe the best thing to learn from this is that online is taking up more and more of people’s time and therefore it feeds everything simultaneously and the real losers in this are the more traditional methods of communication. I can’t imagine ever striking up a friendship on Facebook that ends up in having a pen pal.
If online is taking up more of people’s time than that’s where brands should be spending their efforts, too. Now, that does make sense.
